After his parents' death, Oliver Queen inherited their multi-billion dollar manufacturing company in Star City. Queen lived the good life and played up a playboy image. During a cruise on the South Seas, he was attacked by a former employee, Vertigo, he fired for stealing his technology. Queen was knocked overboard and awoke stranded on Starfish Island. When no rescue party showed up, Queen crafted a crude bow and arrow to gather food. Every day, he built up his strength, tested his limits, and surpassed them. Queen became strong and fearless, all for the day he would get to confront Vertigo. Years later, Queen hailed a passing ship and returned to civilization.
Oliver Queen became an advocate for social causes and fashioned a costumed identity for himself, Green Arrow. Using the technology of his company, Queen created an arsenal of trick arrows that conceal weapons and a jet named the Arrow Plane. After the Joining was defeated, the Martian Manhunter recruited him to join the Justice League. He agreed to join despite insecurities that he couldn't keep up with his super powered allies. Green Arrow used his alter-ego's access to capital to finance the construction of a space station satellite headquarters for the League.
A three week epidemic of sick children caught the attention of Green Arrow. He linked the illness to possible illegal dumping conducted by a nearby company, Wayne Industries. Batman and Robin teamed up with Green Arrow to learn the truth. Batman revealed his identity to Green Arrow, already having deduced his. While analyzing evidence in the Batcave, Green Arrow was amazed and inspired to create a secret headquarters for himself someday. Green Arrow and Batman discovered Count Vertigo was constructing a giant gyroscope in order to induce vertigo on Gotham and ransom the city. The duo defeated Vertigo.
A short time later, Green Arrow teamed up with the Flash to capture the Mirror Master in Central City. During the capture, the Flash was captured. An hour later, Green Arrow woke up and revealed the incident to Batman. Batman and Green Arrow set out to find Hugo Strange and get their allies' powers back. Green Arrow provided distraction for Hawkman and Martian Manhunter while they attacked their superdroid counterparts. Upon the second invasion force of the Joining, Green Arrow and the Flash destroyed any ships that got past Green Lantern and Superman.
