While living in his hometown: Central City, Illinois, police scientist Barry Allen was working late into the night. Allen was infamous among his co-workers for his slow and methodical style. A stray lightning bolt hit Allen, who was doused in several chemicals. He discovered he gained super speed like his idol, the Flash. Inspired by Garrick's comics, he became the new Flash. After adjusting the best that he could to his powers, Allen crafted a normal-looking ring that housed his costume. The Flash confronted several costumed crooks like Mirror Master and Captain Cold but Central City was still plagued with thousands of unsolved cases. Over time, the Flash used his powers in a more precise manner. In one instance, he can vibrate his molecules, create an anergy field, and pass through objects.
After the first invasion of the Joining, the Martian Manhunter recruited the Flash to join the newly formed Justice League. Over a year later, the Flash ran to Gotham City in search of Batman. He discovered the Batcave in an hour. Together, they stopped Mirror Master from kidnapping and ransoming Gotham's 100 richest citizens. A short time later, the Flash and Green Arrow tracked Mirror Master to the Central City Fairgrounds. During the capture, Flash was knocked out with sleeping gas and kidnapped by Hugo Strange. Powerless, the Justice League confronted their android counterparts with weapons the Batman devised in case of emergency. The Flash used a launcher that expels a glue-like substance to freeze the droid in its tracks. After getting his powers back, the Flash and Green Arrow fought any Joining ships that got past Green Lantern and Superman.
