In the Far East, there is a sect of monks that practice an intense form of meditation. Through the mystic power of the third eye, one can enter a state of awareness so potent he or she can project one's visions into reality. The only form of defense against this power is strength of mind.
A monk mastered this power and went rogue as the Spellbinder. After learning of a public auction that would include the Eye of Sarkana, Spellbinder arrived in Gotham and implanted hypnotic suggestions to steal into the butlers of Bruce Wayne, Duncan, and McCue as well as in the wealthy elites. Their hypnosis would be triggered at a predestined time. The Eye would enhance his mystic powers and make him unstoppable. Luckily, the Batman used his inner strength to overcome the Spellbinder's power and defeat him.
