Marty Slacker is a young genius who turned to a life of crime instead of staying in school. Slacker was recruited by the Joker. However, after each of his failures, the Joker became more and more convinced to feed Slacker to his pet hyenas. But Slacker managed to stall death with his latest inventions.
In his spare time, Slacker created a character named Captain Slash for an Internet game and became a constant foe of another named Nightwing. Slash always managed to get the upper hand. Slacker took the game to heart and created the video game helmet. With it, the Joker could mentally download money rather than the physical effort of breaking into a vault. However, in the theft, the device malfunctioned and created a separate digital copy of the Joker.
Slacker then realized that Wayne Industries' nanobot technology could provide it with a physical body. The Joker duplicate went on a rampage. After Robin figured out that Slacker was Captain Slash, he uploaded the duplicate into the online game and Slacker was arrested.
