Pam Isley was an out of control Gotham teenager obsessed with protecting the environment. Isley quickly garnered a juvenile record for her extreme records. She convinced her friend, Barbara Gordon, to join her in acts of breaking and entering to buildings owned by companies on her list of targets.
Isley secretly used a voice filter to hire a corporate saboteur for hire, Temblor, to attack her targets. First, he leveled Neugog Chemicals then Chlorogene. However, Temblor became suspicious after his payments came out small. While on the run, Isley was pinned under debris and exposed to Chlorogene plant steroids. While on route to a hospital for detox, Isley manifested the power to control plants and was whisked away by a massive vine.
With new powers and a plant-like biochemistry, she took the name Poison Ivy and vowed to use her powers to avenge crimes against nature. Ivy kidnapped Commissioner Gordon and was going to feed him to a carnivorous plant but the Batman and Batgirl defeated her with a well placed freeze pellet into the pool of water surrounding them.
Poison Ivy later escaped and used her powers to cultivate a new breed of plants with a highly evolved replication process. It used toxins to lower brain activity and trap victims in a state of euphoria and create clones composed of plant matter. Ivy planned to replace the most powerful people in Gotham with clones and save plant life. She planted seeds of the plant all over Gotham Park and used a clone to steal Silver Iodide to influence intense precipitation. With water, the plants would grow in an instant. However, the Batman and Batgirl replaced the method of delivery with herbicide.
Months later, the tables were turned on her and she was kidnapped by the new vigilante Rumor. One year later, upon hearing news that Superman would be in Gotham City to award the Mayor with a donation for reconstruction, Poison Ivy wanted to use her mind control spores to make Superman into her slave. Lex Luthor captured her and refined the spores with Kryptonite to make them effective. Ivy was imprisoned in a LexCorp Industries weapons lab until the Batman and Robin discovered it. Upon reviving Superman, the trio returned and defeated Luthor. Ivy was taken into police custody.
