The title of Number 1 is given to the top follower of Black Mask. Number 1 acts as his general and commands the False Face Society. However, due to Black Mask's zero tolerance policy, the title often changes hands even during current operations. Number 1 is distinguished from other members of the False Face Society by having a separate dress code and often revealing their face.
When Black Mask was captured, Number 1 rallied his forces to invade Gotham Police headquarters but took longer than expected when Batgirl and Robin fortified the building. As a result, Black Mask did away with the Number 1 and made his helicopter pilot the new Number 1.
Over a year later, a new Number 1 was in charge and aided with the theft of the gem depository. However, after he questioned Black Mask's plan he coated him in Nth Metal powder and sent him flying off. In any case, it is most likely he was killed after flying off into space or falling to his death after the powder expired. The new Number 1 was a red-haired woman with an eye patch.
