Joe Chill is one of many criminals that infested more and more communities of Gotham City. On one fateful night, he attempted to rob the Wayne Family as they left a movie theater. Chill was startled and shot Dr. and Mrs. Wayne dead. He fled the scene and was never captured. Joe Chill was the Batman's only unsolved case and became the catalyst in his deep seated desire to rescue those in need. When Bruce Wayne adopted Dick Grayson, he saw the opportunity to save Grayson from a life consumed by vengeance. Together, they brought the Grayson's killer to justice.
