Dr. Jane Blaisedale was a brilliant nuclear physicist at Gotham University. She headed a project designed at boosting nuclear energy output. However, it was shut down out of safety concerns by the University Board of Directors. Around the same time, she met and fell in love with Garfield Lynns, also known as Firefly.
Together, Lynns and Blaisedale dreamed of striking it rich and leaving Gotham City, once and for all. Nicknamed "Blaise," she suggested an upgrade in Firefly's aresenal to aid him in stealing gold from the Gotham Treasury. The duo managed to steal radioactive phosphorus from Gotham University's Astrophysics Department and retreated to their apartment on the South Side.
However, Lynns detonated the phosphorus by accident and gained super powers. Blaise was left unscathed. She became increasingly concerned with his power's instability and its effect on his mind. Despite many attempts to reason with him, he tried to level Gotham City, but the Bat Family intervened. Blaise was convicted and sent to prison. Before she began her sentence, Blaise attained permission to visit Lynns at his cell in Arkham Asylum. She broke up with him and walked away in tears.
