A mercenary named Bane volunteered physcial enhancements in a secret lab hidden in the Amazon. He was exposed to a drug called Venom. Unlike his predecessors, Bane survived and gained enhanced physical attributes. Bane used his new found power to kill everyone and escaped. Bane rigged a power infusion module to inject Venom into his body and continued his career as a mercenary for hire.
Bane was hired by desperate crime lords in Gotham City to kill the Batman. He was amazed at how fear reigned supreme and how criminals cowered at the mention of him and accepted the job. Bane attacked an armored car on Rogers and Englehart to lure the Batman into the open and challenge him to battle. Bane defeated the Batman and left him with multiple fractures and internal bleeding. Bane went on a crime spree for three weeks before the Batman reappeared. Their battle spilled over from the bank on 437 Adams onto rooftop. As he peeled away the Batbot, the Batman used an exposed wire to electrify the highly conductive Venom. Bane reverted back to his normal self and collapsed from the shock.
Years later, Bane was recruited to join Team Penguin while robbing the Gotham Bank. However, he was defeated by the Batman, Batgirl, and Robin before he could reply. Shortly after, Bane was one of the supervillains kidnapped by Rumor and marked for execution. After the Batman and Robin defeated Rumor and the horde of villains, Bane was among them returned to Arkham Asylum. During the invasion of the Joining, Bane fought alongside the Gotham Police Department against the aliens. After they were defeated, he escaped and resurfaced a year later as an accomplice of Black Mask, who was hired to kill Superman.
