The people of Tamaran are a proud warrior race whose power is driven from the release of emotion. Joy unlocks flight, fury of starbolts, and confidence of strength. It said an infant Tamaranian learns flight first. Tamaranians politics are similar to Earth's early city-states and they are led by a Grand Ruler. Grand Rulers can be either male or female and is accompanied by the title of Emperor or Empress. Religion is centered around the worship of a goddess named X'Hal. As residents of the Vega star system, the Tamaranians are in constant battle with the Citadel and the Gordanians. Explosions are set off to alert Tamaranians of approaching Gordanians. As a result of years of warfare, they developed acupressure to heal physical ailments and even paralyzation. In addition to their common foes, Tamaranians are also aware of the threat of Trigon the Terrible.

Tamaranians have nine stomachs, and as a result, food is an important part of daily life. Fungus appears to be a staple of the Tamaranian diet. Glorp requires the cultivation of fungi, and is said to taste like a combination of ice cream and sushi. Other delicacies are sputlinks and Zorka berries. Food is often integrated into Tamaranian ritual. Despite the presence of warfare on the Tamaranians, their culture is dominated by ritual. When a Tamaranian feels a certain emotion, they often restrict diet to a certain food such is the case with Pudding of Sadness. A giant feast marks a successful arranged marriage and primarily takes place at moonset. Music also plays a small role as evidenced by the traditional gorca pipes.

In other cases, intangible things are celebrated such as Blorthog, the Festival of Friendship or the Rekmas, the drifting of friends apart. As is the case with royalty anywhere, on Tamaran, outsiders are forbidden from touching those of the royal bloodline. If there is a challenge for the crown, no one must interfere or else the challenge is void. Travel is also forbidden to several areas of the galaxy, including the black hole-filled Draconis Nebula. And when the royal family bears children, a trusted friend is nominated as a K'Norfka and raises the child in place of the birth parents.

The rest of the galaxy have a mixed opinion of the Tamaranians. While martial artists such as the Warlords of Okaara and the Venzo Master of Tyrus-3 take on Tamaranians as students, some think they are an inferior and backwards people. Troq or "worthless" is their term for Tamaranians. In any case, the Tamaranians have a diverse set of powers: they can learn language through lip contact, are immune to radiation, can survive in space, are allergic to metallic chromium, and undergo a brief transformation in their life cycle that culminates in a chrysalis stage. Language is somewhat similar to Earth English. Even though there is no comparable term for "nice," Tamaranians seem to have an equally colorful set of curse words such as "clorbag varblarnook" or "milnip wisserloop."
