The Guardian of the Trees is a sentient white monkey in the service of the True Master, a reclusive martial arts instructor. The monkey appears near a secluded field of bamboo. He initiates the last of three tests for those that seek out the True Master. The monkey appears to test the student's ability to quickly adapt and mimic an opponent's fighting ability.
In recent times, it has become a rarity for Monkey to meet students. Because of this, it appears that he has become somewhat eccentric and eager to socialize. Robin defeated Monkey by utilizing the bamboo was a substitute tail. He was amused by this and allowed him to pass to meet the True Master. It during this test that the student is taught the fundamentals of the Duel of the Leaping Monkey technique. After Katarou was defeated, the True Master summoned Bear and Monkey to properly dispose of him.
