Azarath is an interdimensional city that exists between the planes of reality. The spell, "Karazon, Racashos, Endareth. Vasirix, Zendrien, Azarath. Azarath, Azarath" is cast in order to open a portal to the location. It was built centuries ago by a woman named Azar as a sanctuary for pacifists. As a result, Azarath was an untouched paradise graced with emerald skies and crimson clouds. Streets were paved in marble. Buildings were accented with columns of gold. About 200 years later, the people of Azarath formed the Temple of Azarath society and attempted to purge themselves of evil permanently. The collective darkness of their souls was exorcised into Limbo but failed to dissipate. Instead, it formed into Trigon the Terrible. Azar was succeeded by her daughter and her daughter and so forth.

Some time later, they provided refuge to a woman that was impregnated by Trigon and renamed her Arella. Despite the prophecy they discovered when reading Arella's child's future, they welcomed the two to their city and showed them nothing but love and kindness. The child was given an Azarathian name, Raven. After Raven left, Azarath began to succomb to Trigon's evil. The emerald skies turned to blood, the odor of brimstone flooded the city, peace became fear, and life became death. When Raven returned in search of help to fight Trigon's arrival, she found Arella tending to a flock of doves and assured her nothing could be done. The prophecy was absolute.
