In his insane bid to reclaim America for England, Mad Mod tried to brainwash the citizens of Jump City during Independence Day and unleashed an army of robots bearing an homage to the Red Coats, the nickname for the historical British Army. The American colonists later referred to them as "Bloody Backs" and "Lobsters." In the 17th century, infantrymen were required to wear a coat with venetian red and white facings as part of the New Model Army Ordinance. However, the color of red began to vary based on which regiment a soldier belonged to. Eventually it became something of a ceremonial trend and it was rumored red was chosen so that blood would not show up on their uniform during battle. In reality, it was to enhance morale and visibility on the field of battle. Mad Mod's army appears to based specifically on the 20th century Coldstream Guards. After Robin destroyed Mod's cane, the robots all deactivated.
