Professor Abel Weathers became convinced that a nuclear halocaust was unavoidable in the near future. Driven to the point of insanity and paranoia, he began to conduct experiments on forced evolution to create posthumans capable of surviving doomsday. Weathers even resorted to using his 16 year old daughter, Kole. He grafted Promethium on her but instead of evolving, Kole Weather's metagene was activated. She could encapsulate her body in crystal.
Weary of being manipulated, Kole left society in search of sanctuary. She journeyed to the harsh Sector 13, the Arctic Circle and discovered a lost world. There, Kole met Gnarrk and the two became instant friends. Since Kole becomes immobile when transformed, she allows Gnarrk to use her as a blunt weapon. However, Dr. Light realized he could use Kole as a conduit to enhance his powers to limitless levels. While consoling Gnarrk, Kole was kidnapped. The Teen Titans and Gnarrk pursued him to the surface and disabled his device. Kole elected to transform again, focused Starfire's starbolt into a laser, and defeated Light.
A short time later, Kole and Gnarrk were attacked by Billy Numerous and Gizmo. They were pronounced dead but managed to reunite with Cyborg and secretly travel underground to the Brotherhood of Evil's secret Paris base for the final battle.
