Victor Stone loved life and was a star athlete in Jump City, California. During an experiment gone horribly wrong, Stone's mother died and he was almost killed. His father, Silas Stone, saved his life with cybernetic implants made of molybdenum steel. Stone was angered by his new condition and felt he became an outcast and freak overnight. He never finished high school, kept to himself, and always thought something was missing in him for years. One day, he encountered Robin, Beast Boy, Raven, and Starfire after hearing explosions. Although unwilling to let Robin be the leader at first, Stone joined them to defeat the Gordanians hunting Starfire. During the battle, Robin suggested he rewire one of his arms into a weapon. He quickly connected the octagonal thermal coupler to the volt relay meter and the sonic cannon was born. the sonic cannon was born. Afterwards, Robin and he agreed that the five heroes should stay in contact. From his own circuits, Stone helped create the Titans Communicator. Soon after, the Teen Titans were formed, he took the codename Cyborg, and created the Titans Tower.

As a Titan, the 16 year old Cyborg no longer felt like a freak but he still had his own share of problems to work out. As an athlete, he enjoyed pushing himself past his limits, giving that extra 10%. However, as Cyborg, he felt restrained. And incidentally to his half-human, half machine state, Cyborg was always often really happy or really sad. In another case, Cyborg's room also displays his duality. One side contains trophies and photgraphs, memories of his life, while the other has his system recharger and computer terminal. As the oldest in the group, Cyborg was always ready to move on and became infamous for routinely quitting the Titans and returning soon after.

From head to toe, Cyborg is a veritable walking Swiss Army Knife. His brain is half-machine, making it resistant to mind control. The one ocular implant allows him to scan multiple sub-harmonic frequencies and switch through the electromagnetic spectrum and to nightvision. Cyborg's titanium body armor houses a 50,000 Watt Power Cell. His arms hold a variety of equipment such as a built in phone, enhanced sensors, molecular scanner, geiger counter, and sonic analyzer. His finger even has a blow torch and spy camera. And when needed, his arm can be ejected and operate remotely, shoot a grapple wire, and turn into a drill. His body also contained an internal locator signal and various tools like a wrench. Cyborg's boots also contain thrusters.

Unfortunately, with all the enhancements and gadgets, Cyborg also inherited 35 weaknesses. Among them, his power cell dies out every couple of years and has to be replaced, sensors can't track certain alien lifeforms, he can be infected by computer viruses, intense radiation can affect sensors, his ocular implant can't see in the low ultraviolet spectrum, intense sound can scramble his circuitry, and his parts make him magnetic. Despite this, Cyborg's humanity has often helped him overcome trial and tribulation. Against Atlas, he managed to overcome his limit and go to 130% strength to win the battle. Cyborg also appears to be a frequent victim of the pink tutu. Whether it's initiations or super villains, Cyborg often finds himself dressed in one.

In addition to being a top athlete, Cyborg also has high aptitude with machines and technology of any sort. As a Titan, he built the Titans Tower, Communicators, T-Car, T-Sub, various traps, a robot duplicate, and a holographic generator built in two rings. And when he's in a pinch, Cyborg has proven able to quickly improvise devices or hack them. When need be, he can also interface with any electronic device. In an emergency situation, Cyborg can connect to the Titans Tower and generate several weapons and unleash a concussive blast at the cost of nearly depeleting his power cell. He also designed the Tower's security system, encryption strings, and lockdown sequence.

Cyborg, for the most part, began to exhibit signs of his past self, a voracious appetite, eager to prank others, very protective of the T-Car (from who can drive it and how to polish it), and jubilantly shouts, "Boo-Yah!" as his battle cry. It appears the latter was inspired by the Boo-Yah Energy Drink line or vice versa. He also bonded in various ways to his team mates. With Robin, a brother of sorts, he created the Sonic Boom, an infallible battle technique in which Robin throws an explosive and Cyborg activates his sonic cannon to unleash a devastating chain reaction. They are also rivals on the Tower's Gamestation, routinely beating each other's scores. With Beast Boy, a best friend, they enjoy playing jokes on each other and the team. With Starfire, Cyborg is completely normal to her since she never knew him before the accident and even learned Tamaranian from her. With Raven, they bonded though the act of putting passion into something. Together, they often rebuild the T-Car and sometimes play chess.

Cyborg's first big break was an undercover mission to infiltrate H.I.V.E. and learn their plans. However, several unexpected things happened along the way: he felt like a normal teenager going to school, developed a crush on Jinx, and became obsessed with defeating Brother Blood. To make matters worse, Blood stole his technology and used it to enhance his mental powers. Cyborg went with his instincts and went to Steel City to finish the Titans East Tower and mentor the rookie team. However, Blood invaded the Tower, took over the team, and nearly scrapped Cyborg. But, Cyborg's spirit never faltered and he resisted Blood to the end. In his anger, Blood left his own mind exposed and allowed Cyborg to hack him and defeat him once and for all. After the ordeal, Cyborg felt he proved to himself he was his own man and turned over leadership of the Titans East to Bumblebee.

While on a bid to upgrade operations in the Tower, Cyborg was teleported to 3000 B.C. during a war. He quickly proved himself a worthy warrior to the human tribe and fell in love with their leader, Sarasim. However, time was running out on his depleting power cell. After realizing Krall was the cause of the war, he was left for dead. Sarasim revived him to 7% power by crudley linking him to the tribe's dam and generating hydroelectricity. During the final battle, Raven managed to return him to his time. After consulting one of her books, Raven revealed to Cyborg that Sarasim won that day and one of the surviving artifacts depicts a lone unarmored warrior who resembles Cyborg very closely.

On at least one occassion, Cyborg tried to upgrade himself and installed a Maximum 7 processor. He managed to be able to do more in a day from building a game room, learning to surf, coaching Little League, winning a Spelling Bee, learning Tamaranian, getting rich from Cy-B-B Sauce, and playing chess with Raven. But his core operating hardware was slowly getting stressed out. It was apparent during the Titans' pursuit of Billy Numerous. Cyborg sacrificed power and became more and more robotic. Cyborg accepted he couldn't do everything and defeated Numerous with a simple hologram.

During the Titans' worldwide mission to recruit heroes, Cyborg's last assignment was Pantha. However, soon after, the Brotherhood of Evil initiated their plan to attack every hero at once. While trying to reach Kole and Gnarrk in Sector 13, Cyborg was knocked into a chasm by Mammoth. Assumed dead, Cyborg teamed up with Kole and Gnarrk and reunited with the Titans at the Brotherhood's Paris base for the final showdown.

20 years later, Cyborg is in disrepair and stuck in the Titans Tower alone after his last power cell burned out. Despite being utterly depressed, Cyborg kept tabs on Beast Boy and Raven. After being approached by a time lost Starfire and receiving Nightwing's alert, Cyborg repaired himself and joined the fight against Warp. He quickly adapted the villain's vortex regulator to his sonic cannon and redirected a wormhole for Starfire to return to the present.
