From parts unrevealed, Karen Beecher used her size changing powers and technical know how to use as a super hero named Bumblebee. She became obsessed with bringing Brother Blood to justice and managed to infiltrate the H.I.V.E. Academy as a student. Through some means, Bumblebee resisted or avoided Blood's mind control. She became a top student only to be eclipsed by the meteoric rise of Stone who was actually Cyborg in disguise. The two kept their distance and last saw each other at the Sadie Hawkins Dance.
Some time later, Bumblebee helped Blood construct the new fortress and the sonic resonator weapon from Cyborg's blueprints. After being contacted by Aqualad, she supplied him with schematics in hopes he'd return with reinforcements. Bumblebee then teamed up with Cyborg to take out the resonator and revealed her true intentions to the enraged Blood. The Titans, Bumblebee, and Aqualad regrouped at the Titans Tower following the fortress' demise. Bumblebee and Aqualad pursued Blood east to Steel City. They set up headquarters and recruited Speedy and Mas y Menos to join their cause. Titans East was born.
Bumblebee managed to activate the sensor grid on Level 4 but was annoyed when she realized she was the only one working on the Tower. Luckily, Cyborg arrived to lend his expertise. But so did Brother Blood. This time he was able to control the Titans East and turn them against Cyborg. The Teen Titans arrived and together, defeated Blood and H.I.V.E. again. Cyborg stepped down as leader and nominated Bumblebee to which she accepted.
Some time later, she agreed to take on a mission to protect Jump City while the Teen Titans were away fighting the Brotherhood of Evil. However, she was hoping to prove herself and the team's worth to Cyborg. They soon faced Control Freak and his Ultimate Titans Challenge. Bumblebee escaped his atomic resistor capsule, intended for Starfire. Control Freak modified the challenge and forced her to save a 12:02 express train from exploding on 1st Street while stuck in a shrunken state. Bumblebee used the electrified third rail to stop the bomb. The Titans East were later drawn into the final battle against the Brotherhood. Punk Rocket and Angel attacked the lone Bumblebee but she was able to escape capture. She arrived at the Brotherhood's Paris base with Starfire and Red Star and joined the battle.
