10 years before his death, a French scientist selected a prominent gorilla for his grand experiment. Using electrocution treatments and secret teaching methods, he raised the gorilla's intelligence to 178. With its newfound abilities, the gorilla learned may languages, including English and French, and took the name Monsieur Mallah. After the scientist died, Mallah proceeded with his instructions. It removed the scientist's brain and placed it in a special receptacle. The scientist was reborn as the Brain. Together, the two tried to take over the world numerous times only to be defeated by the Doom Patrol.
Among the many missions in time fighting the Teen Titans, Mallah attempted to intercept Raven in the Swiss Alps and kidnap the trio of Melvin, Teether, and Timmy. However, he was unaware of a fourth individual named Bobby, a super strong invisible teddy bear. Mallah bidded his time and took them after Raven delivered them to a cathedral sanctuary. However, he couldn't resist an opportunity to kill Raven. Luckily, the quartet used their powers to overwhelm Mallah. Rather than accept defeat, Mallah escaped.
In the final battle between the Brotherhood and the Teen Titans, as the tide turned in the favor of the Titans, the Brain dispatched Mallah to end their insurrection. However, the combined might of the Titans proved too much. The Brain and Mallah attempted to flee the base but were defeated by Robin and Beast Boy, respectively. They were cryogenically frozen by Mas y Menos, who took control of Professor Chang's technology, along with the rest of the Brotherhood.
