Origins unknown, the Master of Games indulges his victims in a high stakes challenge at the risk of their health. After acquiring a rare gem, the Master planned an elaborate Tournament of Heroes to entice several super heroes to compete against each other and determine who was the best. Robin, Cyborg, Beast Boy, Gizmo, Aqualad, Speedy, Hotspot, and Wildebeest were teleported to an alternate dimenstion for the tournament. However, after each battle, the loser was absorbed into the Master's gem and he was granted their power and skill. After Robin was the winner, he realized the Master's scheme and destroyed the gem. His allies returned to normal and were returned to their last known location. Soon after, the Master issued a Tournament of Heroines that included Starfire, Raven, and Terra. He was defeated a second time.

Years later, he was recruited to the Brotherhood of Evil. In the final battle between the Brotherhood and the Teen Titans, the Master of Games and the other villains were cryogenically frozen by Mas y Menos, who took control of Professor Chang's technology.
