Laura DeMille was once a beautiful Parisan actress. However, she suffered from severe schizophrenia, a mental disorder in which one cannot distinguish the difference between reality and fantasy as well as not being able to act normally in routine situations. The Brain took DeMille under his tutelage and experimented on her brain. The endeavor further unhinged DeMille and turned her into a psychopath. After a second trial, the Brain gifted her with super powers. Loyal only to the Brain, she took on the code name Madame Rouge and was one of the original members of the Brotherhood of Evil. She and the Brotherhood were constant foes of the Doom Patrol. Although vulnerable to Mento's telepathy, he commented her mind was often too twisted to read.
Years later, Madame Rouge was dispatched by the Brain to acquire a Titans Communicator at any cost. Despite preferring the direct approach, Rouge followed his orders and attacked Wildebeest. In the fight, his Communicator was destroyed. Undaunted, she resurfaced in Morocco and pursued Hotspot. Robin's unanticipated arrival prompted her to shape shift and manipulate Hotspot into defeat. She overcame Hotspot, imitated him, and managed to get Robin to hand over his Communicator. Months later, Rouge personally investigated the H.I.V.E. Five's claim they captured Kid Flash. She was unimpressed with the Five's performance and made it known. In the final phase of his plan, the Brain sent Rouge to capture Robin. In the final battle, she was cryogenically frozen with her allies.
