The Hierarchy of International Vengeance and Extermination (H.I.V.E.) was founded and led by the H.I.V.E. Master. He recruited seven scientists to the organization and help create secret honeycomb bases and various forms of technology to use. Super villains and otherwise morally gray figures would act as agents for H.I.V.E. and act as soldiers for hire. They advertised themselves to clients with the biggest pockets as a well organized, highly trained, and fully equipped fighting force.
H.I.V.E. enjoyed steady profits and employed various administrators to take over day to day operations. To protect their identity, they wore purple robes. A modest paramilitary force was also kept on staff at every base to act as security. They bear the worker bee look to complement the honeycomb motif. Over time, the organization expanded to form the H.I.V.E. Academy for Extraordinary Young People in an effort to attract recruits at a young age and train them from the start in their methods. Upon graduation, they would become full-fledged operatives. Much like any military preparatory school, the Academy includes classes, training, mess hall, and an annual dance. Then, a Junior H.I.V.E. Academy was founded that would lead into the H.I.V.E. Academy.
After the death of the founder, the H.I.V.E. Master's wife took over the organization as Headmistress. H.I.V.E continued to flourish under her leadership and even had at least one contract with Slade. However, months after his death, the Headmistress went missing and Brother Blood took over. Under his rule, many bases and resources were destroyed by the Teen Titans. Many of the Academy's students went out on their own as super villains. The current status of H.I.V.E. is unknown as Headmistress was frozen in the final battle between the Teen Titans and the Brotherhood of Evil.
