Believed to be nothing more than a couch potato with a souped up remote control, Control Freak was delegated as a minor threat according to the Teen Titans. He struck at Cook's Electronics and began to animate objects with his remote. The Titans defeated him and confiscated his device. It joined the collection of mementos in the Titans Tower. While in prison, Control Freak plotted revenge against his arch-enemies, the Teen Titans, and further warped his insanity and obsessive nature.

Classified as Prisoner #257-325, Control Freak escaped prison. He discovered a way to transmit himself as a broadcast signal from a Cook's Electronics store. After appearing on a dozen television sets, the Teen Titans investigated and pursued him. The Titans raced to stop him after realizing deadly alpha waves were being emitted to viewers. However, Freak became unstoppable when he learned became an astrojitsu blackbelt, took Bionic Hero's rocket boots, wore Benthar's Wristbands of Power, and armed himself with Captain Kaleel's Gravoblaster. Control Freak was living out his fanboy fantasies and became an unstoppable 12th level space samurai in the process. Luckily, he met his nerdy match in Beast Boy. Beast Boy performed a Hak Joon Chat to bind and neutralize Control Freak. After destroying his broadcast device, the Titans handed Control Freak over to the authorities.

After breaking out of prison again, Control Freak was approached to join the Brotherhood of Evil. He accepted but continued to plot revenge against the Teen Titans. He conducted a precise analysis of the team and developed the Ultimate Titans Challenge, a series of trials aimed at testing specific skills and stamina with counter-technology weapons. However, the Titans were away and journeying across the world. His atomic resistor capsule, aerial sensory detonator, energy cage, and magnetic repeller were built for nothing.

Annoyed by the Titans East, Control Freak left the Tower. After observing them save the lives of citizens, Freak revised his Challenge and attacked the Titans East. Bumblebee would have to stop the 12:02 express train from exploding on 1st street, Aqualad had to stop sewage from polluting the local water supply, Speedy has to save the Bay Bridge with no energy arrows, and Mas y Menos were forced to stop a bomb without their powers. Much to his surprise, they won and arrested him. A short time later, he escaped prison again and helped apprehend Killowatt with the Puppet King. He was frozen in the aftermatch of the final battle between the Brotherhood of Evil and the Teen Titans.
