A man obsessed with showmanship acquired a wand and top hat empowered with magic. He became the Amazing Mumbo and committed daring crimes to showcase his forte. After receiving an alert for a jewel theft, the Teen Titans chased after Mumbo. However, Cyborg was barely online with a rigged external battery pack. After losing Cyborg, the Titans thought Mumbo kidnapped him and pursued him. They managed to shatter his wand and made Mumbo revert to normal without any powers. He admitted he knew nothing and was hauled off to prison.
Mumbo broke out months later and was defeated by the Titans again, with Terra present. Some time later, he resurfaced at a bank heist. Still unimpressed with his brand of magic, Raven chided Mumbo and he kidnapped her. The entire team was trapped within Mumbo's hat, where his magic is stronger and could neutralize the Titan's powers. He declared he would destroy the Titans forever and transformed them into animals, acts for his latest show: Mumbo's Menagerie or A Cottontail of Woe. Raven was to be his assistant for doubting his skill at every turn. However, Raven and the Titans finally took to Mumbo's lead and tricked him with special paint. They all returned to the bank. Robin bound him and left the magician to the police.
A year later, Mumbo was recruited to join the Brotherhood of Evil. Mumbo arrived at the Brotherhood's Paris hideout and was one of many cryogenically frozen in the final showdown against the Titans.
