Years ago, Robin infiltrated a pool hall hosting the DC Villains Billiards League as "The Hands," in an attempt to learn the location of an Atlantean treasure horde stolen by King Shark. King was so cocky that in the championship round, he wagered his prized narwhal pool cue. He lost to The Hands because his creepy baby hands threw him off his game. The other villains cheered on The Hands and left the pool hall with him. Years later, the Teen Titans encouraged King to compete in the DC Billiards Invitational and win back his pool cue from The Hands. At the pool hall, King had second thoughts but Beast Boy, who was stuck in his stomach, told him to trust his "gut" and play. In the first round, he played Two-Face. King got to break but he sunk the 8-ball first without calling the pocket, as well as knocking out 50% Chad and breaking a ceiling light, and lost. The other villains laughed at him. King ran out crying.

After learning how to trust his gut by doing the opposite of what Beast Boy suggested, he returned to the pool hall to find it empty except for Robin and a tumbleweed. Robin informed him The Hands won again then revealed he was The Hands. Robin told him about his case but admitted he fell in love with the game instead of closing the case. Beast Boy got an idea and told King to challenge him to a rematch to get the narwhal pool cue back. Robin agreed to the wager when King revealed he would reveal the treasure's location if he lost. King, however, wanted to select the pool table. Robin didn't see any harm in it and they left the pool hall for the Titans Tower.
