Metropolis is a major American east coast city and famous for being the home of Superman. The Teen Titans planned a road trip one year to drive from Jump City to Metropolis. Due to Starfire and Cyborg making funny animal noises all night, Robin over slept and woke up late at 7:19. He rushed Beast Boy and Raven to the garage into the T-Car. Beast Boy, still half asleep, double counted Robin and Raven. They took off for Metropolis. Some time later, they arrived in the city and parked near an observatory with the Daily Planet building in the distance. Beast Boy went to wake up Cyborg and Starfire but realized they weren't there. Robin believed they would destroy the Titans Tower or hurt themselves. They packed into the T-Car and reversed back home. Cyborg and Beast Boy routinely attended the annual Metropolis Ping-Pong Invitational. One year, Beast Boy was off visiting the Doom Patrol. Raven and Starfire were also gone for similar reasons. Robin finally convinced Cyborg to accept him as his new partner.
After a flight with farm animals, a seedy motel in Bismarck, riding the rails with Sticky Joe, and crashing a rental car off a cliff, Cyborg had enough of Robin and walked the rest of the way. On the outskirts of Metropolis, Robin caught up to him on a donkey. A donkey happened to be Cyborg's favorite mode of transportation. They rode it to the Metropolis Convention Center where the ping-pong tournament was being held.
