In Robin's version of the Teen Titans' origin story, he went to Detroit High School first to recruit Cyborg. He found him looking at school's trophy case and his old jersey. Robin made his presence known by commenting it was unlikely anyone would break his rushing records. Cyborg aimed his arm cannon at him. Robin revealed he was looking for some team players. Cyborg declared he would never been on a team again. Cyborg couldn't imagine any team he would be on and punched the trophy case. Robin clarified he meant a team of heroes. Cyborg's mood lightened up when he mistakenly thought Robin was inviting him to the Justice League and called his Grandma with the good news. Robin clarified himself and left a business card with Cyborg.
