Pain Bot is a robotic henchman of Brother Blood armed with gigantic torture devices. Blood debuted Pain Bot to Robin, Starfire, and Raven in order to force them to record their voice recognition codes. They complied without incident. Blood was disappointed since he spent a lot of time building Pain Bot. He later utilized it on Beast Boy and Cyborg but they kept up their game of saying only "Waffles" until the other three joined in. Blood couldn't take it and fled the scene atop Pain Bot.
In another battle, the ailing Brother Blood summoned Pain Bot and appeared to turn the tide. Robin detonated Blood's controller and Pain Bot released the Titans. Cyborg believed it was completely harmless and wanted to help fix him. The others declined but Cyborg sneaked it into the Titans Tower anyway. The two bonded over baseball, ice cream, auto repair, and video games. Soon enough, the others found out about Pain Bot and wanted it gone. Cyborg objected since everyone else had weird creatures around the tower. After being forced to send Pain Bot away, Cyborg changed his mind and brought it back to the tower. A Little Buddy Showdown was held to see if it could stay. It easily defeated Dave, Raven's demon, Beat Box, the talking Birdarang, Universe Tree, and the enhanced robin with its arsenal. However, it was swallowed whole by Silkie and lost. During a September, Pain Bot attacked all the Titans in the city. It was stored in the Titans Tower attic.
In pursuit of an ice cream truck, Cyborg commandeered a car. He pushed out Pain Bot. Beast Boy later ran into Pain Bot in the Tower's living room. He looked inside and found a thorn stuck in one of its wires. After he pulled it out, Pain Bot switched to Hot Bot and began dancing to electronic music it supplied. Beast Boy heard enough and pushed him out of the tower. Pain Bot felt pain then resumed with dancing. Pain Bot was Birdarang's cameraman during Justice League's Next Top Idol Star. Pain was one of the judges in a Halloween costume contest. Pain Bot was stored in Beast Boy's closet during the time his egg hatched. At the end of the Justice League's Next Top Talent Idol Star: Second Greatest Team Edition episode, Pain Bot brought out the envelope revealing the winning team. Pain Bot was a DJ at one of Beast Boy's birthday parties. Batman, Commissioner Gordon, and Killer Croc watched "Pain is Gain" where Pain Bot was the Titans' overbearing spotter and pushed them way past their limits. It turned into Gain Bot and produced a human chest, abs, and muscular arms.
During the Justice League's Next Top Idol Star: Justice League Edition, Painbot helped out with Robin and Beast Boy's jazz performance by playing the cello. During Justice League's Next Top Talent Idol Star: Dance Crew Edition, Pain Bot continued to be Birdarang's cameraman. Robin assigned Pain Bot to babysit the other Titans after he turned them into babies with Control Freak's remote so he could figure out how to bypass the parental lock on the evidence room. To his surprise, Raven smashed up Pain Bot with Hawkman's Nth Metal mace.
