Kryptonite are remains of the planet Krypton where Superman was originally from. However, on Earth, they have special properties that can adversely affect Superman. Green Kryptonite can weaken and even kill Superman. Blue, green, and red Kryptonite are on display in the Hall of Justice. Gizmo had a supply of Kryptonite so Superman wouldn't bother him. After Raven gave herself Superman's powers, Gizmo blasted her with a Kryptonite ray from his floating fortress. She was too weak to use her magic to change their powers. After the Titans defeated Kalzar, the Wizard of Weakness, on the top of Mount Achilles, a large chunk of Kryptonite hit Robin. After tricking Superman into trusting him, Doomsday gave him a slice of ice-cream cake containing Kryptonite. He gagged, puked, choked, coughed, and collapsed. Starfire held a piece of Kryptonite at Superman to force him to pay taxes.
