The Death Laser was a secret project of H.I.V.E.'s. The Teen Titans attempted to infiltrate the H.I.V.E. Tower and find any data on the project but were beat up and thrown out. While Robin was training, the Death Laser was completed and the other Titans were kidnapped. Just as Gizmo was about to execute them with the laser, Robin arrived. He used his newly mastered whistling skills to repel the Death Laser and blasted it out of the H.I.V.E. Tower.
