As part of his life's work of Mr. Freeze built an Ice Beam designed to emit a beam into the sky and summon him a Snowflake Army. He demonstrated it at the Cold Academy but it fell victim to Icicle's prank. Some time later, Freeze completed a new and improved version and unveiled it just as new students Ice Box and Frosty Tips were revealed to be Cyborg and Beast Boy. The beam worked and an adorable Snowflake Army descended upon Cold Academy. Icicle was not impressed with the Snowflake Army and thought it was so dumb, believing he should have went to Heatwave School for Fire Criminals. After referring to the snowflakes as jerks, they swarmed Icicle and formed a snowman around him. Freeze joked he shouldn't have given them the cold shoulder.
