Neil Adams was once the fourth member of the band B.E.R. and was the rhythm guitarist. One day, while they played "The Night Begins to Shine" in a recording studio, they generated a portal and watched as their music took them to an alternate dimension and created a world. Adams saw their music as power and wanted to rule the planet as gods. The others disagreed and insisted music was played for the people and set them free, not to control them with. Adams quit the band and lived in solitude, deep in the mountains, without music for eons. He discovered the power of dark silence. Now calling himself Ultralak, he amassed an army. Together, they were unsurmountable. They attacked and destroyed the planet's guardian, Sweet, and set out to do the same to all who opposed them. Ultralak soon conquered the planet, outlawed music, and moved to destroy all of it. Some who believed the legends, hoped for the return of the dragonslayer and the other heroes of old. A resistance was formed by a tribe led by Baxtory and they salavaged whatever they found into weapons and instruments.

A man named Miner was branded an outlaw by Ultralak for the creation of radical instruments used by B.E.R. and he was forced into exile where he could barely get by. Musicians traveled to a mine near the town of Grave Rock and buried their songs deep underground to prevent them from being captured by Ultralak or his forces. At some point, Grave Rock's sheriff, a servant of Ultralak, put a value on music. People started looking for songs and selling them for a living. Sheriff delivered the songs by train to Ultralak who had them destroyed at a factory by another of his servants, Fibulon. The dead songs were then discharged into the lake outside. The land around the factory was devastated. The Teen Titans, now in their twilight years, walked through the Titans Tower on the day before Jump City had it torn down for good. Cyborg found his old B.E.R. mixtape and convinced the others to visit the Night Begins to Shine dimension one last time. They soon discovered the corpse of Sweet and met Baxtory. Baxtory recognized who they were and told them what happened since their last visit.

Cyborg didn't understand why anyone would outlaw music and played his mixtape. Ultralak arrived atop his personal aircraft and answered silence was the one true power. Baxtory and his tribe burrowed under the sand. Ultralak demanded the song but the Titans refused. Ultralak dispatched his robot army. Raven erected a barrier but she could not sustain it. Rather than retreat like Beast Boy urged, Cyborg rode his motorcycle out of the barrier and used a robot as a ramp to launch himself up to Ultralak. Cyborg attacked with dual axes but Ultralak knocked one away then broke off Cyborg's left arm with a palm thrust. Cyborg still charged. Ultralak ducked the punch, charged his fist, and punched through Cyborg's body and sped off. Cyborg fell off the aircraft. Ultralak called him a fool for throwing away his life for silly music. Cyborg crawled to his motorcycle and secretly transferred his consciousness to it. Cyborg retorted a life without music wasn't a life worth living. Ultralak obliged him and stabbed Cyborg in the chest with his staff. Cyborg's body surged and he exploded.

Baxtory led the distraught Titans into Sweet and sealed her forehead before Ultralak or his army could follow. Baxtory's tribe also took Cyborg's motorcycle. The Titans refused to let them salvage the cycle. Baxtory respected their wishes and took them to another room where he explain the one way to defeat Ultralak. He played them a melody and revealed the legend of when B.E.R. made a song filled with limitless power but they feared it would fall into the hands of evil so they divided it into three separate stems and hid them across the planet. Baxtory told them to find the stems before Ultralak then summon B.E.R. so they could wield the song's power. He gave them a relic to track the stems, an old radio. Ultralak's army breached Sweet and fired at the tribe. The Titans' exit was blocked by Ultralak. Cyborg took control of the cycle and knocked Ultralak aside then took the Titans out of Sweet's palm. They drove off in search of the stems. Ultralak vowed they would meet again. The Titans and Miner captured Sheriff and prevented him from delivering the first stem to Ultralak.

Ultralak caught up to the Titans after they found the first stem and pursued them on his sled and with his two hound creatures. They attempted evasive action through the forest but Ultralak gained ground. Cyborg fired multiple exploding arrows at them from the exhaust pipe. Ultralak was unharmed but he lost them. Fibulon was shocked to see Ultralak walking up to the factory unannounced. He rushed off from the bank of monitors to the front entrance. He hit a button just in time, and Ultralak strode inside. Fibulon bowed to him and then inquired if he came to oversee the operation. He assured him they were working their fingers to the bone. Ultralak stated he was searching for the heroes of legend because they were attempting to restore B.E.R.'s lost song. Fibulon reported he did not see them but was confident they would never find the Lost Stems. Ultralak called him a fool and informed him the heroes already found a stem then ordered Fibulon to double his and the men's workload in order to accomplish ridding the world of music before they restored the song.

Fibulon accepted. Ultralak warned him that if he failed, his bones would become chew toys for his hounds. Fibulon's jaw buzzed, his nervous tic, and confirmed he understood. Ultralak left the factory. Soon after, the Titans, who were already inside, defeated Fibulon and his workers then restored the lake and land to pristine condition. A giant turtle they tried to help was so grateful he gave them a song. It turned out to be the second stem. After the Titans recovered all three stems, they followed the radio to a certain peak and discovered a temple in the image of B.E.R. and pedestals carved in the image of their instruments. They inserted the stems into each instrument and the combined energies shot up into the sky but Ultralak arrived. At first, Ultralak easily defeated the Titans but they continued to resist. Robin slashed him in the chest and Starfire decked him but Ultralak still countered them. Cyborg tried wrapping a chain around one of his arms and dragging him but he broke the chain then power punched Robin and Starfire.

Ultralak removed the stems then combined them back into the song to the Titans' surprise. He revealed his origins to them then crushed the song. The vibrancy of the planet vanished. A maelstrom formed above Ultralak, in the sky. The power of dark silence permeated through Ultralak's body and he became even more powerful. He increased into the size of a giant and grew a pair of wings. Robin mused they would need a miracle to win. B.E.R. suddenly arrived at the temple. Ultralak could not believe it because he thought destroying their music would be the end all. Franklin Enea declared music could never be destroyed. William Regan pleaded with Adams to stop but his words fell on deaf ears. Ultralak vowed to reshape the planet with silence and darkness. Enea reminded him the four of them created the world together. Regan stated the world was their home. Ultralak countered it was a world where he lived like an insect when he should have been a god. He vowed everyone would either serve him or perish.

Enea realized the only way to take him down was to rock. Regan summoned the song and they absorbed it, to everyone's surprise. Ultralak could not believe it. Carl Burnett repeated music could not be destroyed. They decided to "create" a new member of the team and played "You're the One" then the magical music poured into Cyborg and restored his body, as well as increased his power and size. Ultralak fired his staff and Cyborg was knocked into the mountain but he brushed it off and tackled Ultralak. They struggled then flew up. Ultralak vowed to destroy all his friends. Cyborg fired missiles from his chest at close range. Cyborg and Ultralak battled in space. Cyborg tackled him through a meteor field until Ultralak fired eye lasers at him then used telekinesis to bash two meteors into Cyborg. Cyborg broke free and fired a multitude of missiles at him. Ultralak protected himself by covering his body with his wings. Cyborg formed his hand into multiple turrets and fired laser blasts.

Ultralak took cover behind a meteor. Cyborg taunted Ultralak and told him to surrender. Ultralak summoned his staff and threw it into Cyborg's left shoulder, vowing never to surrender. He then formed two meteors into giant staples and pinned Cyborg to a meteor and moved to drive the music out of Cyborg's body. Ultralak asked him if he had any last words. B.E.R. flew up to them in space and poured more music into Cyborg. He was restored to normal and then set off a blast wave that knocked Ultralak away. Cyborg materialized a rhythm guitar and joined B.E.R. in playing the song. They generated a blast to match Ultralak's and kept playing. Eventually, Ultralak was overpowered and was vaporized by their power. Back at the temple, Regan declared the day marked a new era for peace and musical prosperity across the land.
