The Sheriff is one of the servants of Ultralak in the Night Begins To Shine dimension. Based in a frontier town called Grave Rock, he put a value on music. People started looking for songs and selling them for a living. Like clock work, Sheriff would use his train to deliver the songs to Ultralak then he had them destroyed in his factory. The Miner found one of the Lost Stems and sold it to the Sheriff. To his surprise, the Sheriff paid him a pittance, barely enough to last him through the week. The Sheriff told him times were tough. Miner grumbled they were except for him. The Sheriff invited him take it up with his boss, Ultralak. The Teen Titans happened to come upon them and asked for help finding a song. The Sheriff advised them to leave and never come back. The Miner wasn't interested in helping the Titans but did decide to mention the next shipment would be the next day and Sheriff always stored the songs in the vault at the town's bank. Robin, Beast Boy, Raven, and Starfire attempted to rob the vault but Beast Boy hit a trip laser and they were trapped in a laser cage.
The Sheriff had his robot deputies haul them to the jail. Cyborg convinced the Miner there was time to make things right and they broke out the other Titans. Sheriff departed in his train at the same time. They gave chase. Sheriff activated the train's external laser turrets but Robin blew them up with energy arrows. The Titans took to the roof of a train car so the Sheriff activated his RPG launchers. They were pinned. Miner transformed his steed into a mech suit and fired lasers at the projectiles. Some clipped his weapons so he charged and tackled the launchers off the train. As his suit came apart, he clung to the edge. He fell but realized Cyborg caught him. Errant projectiles took out a bridge up ahead. Sheriff dispatched his deputies next after they failed to go up on their own. Miner jumped into the train and confronted Sheriff. Miner was faster with his guitar and knocked Sheriff to the ground. A deputy returned and Sheriff gloated.
However, the deputy fell on its face and Sheriff was shocked to see a starbolt tomahawk in its back. The Titans stepped in. Sheriff tried to lock himself, the Titans and Miner in the room but Miner was quick enough to slide out. Sheriff gloated he was taking them with him. Miner reconnected the bridge using his music. Back at Grave Rock, Miner imprisoned Sheriff at the jail and took over as the town's new sheriff.
