In Robin's version of the Teen Titans' origin story, Starfire was betrayed by her sister Blackfire and sold to Gordanians as a slave. She was held captive on a Gordanian vessel in the Vega System. Robin happened to be in search of Starfire to recruit her to his new team of heroes. He temporarily disabled the security system, knocked out two Gordaninans with Birdarangs then threw his staff into the Commander's face and knocked him out.
