Real Identity: Jebediah of Canaan
Powers/Skills: Omniscience, Immortality, Magic, Telepathy, Teleportation, and Enhanced Physical Attributes
Voiced By: James Garner

9000 years ago, Jebediah of Canaan lived a simple life as a sheep herder. That soon changed when he was selected by six gods to become their champion, Shazam. They formed the magical word "Vlarem" from the first initial of each of their names. By speaking it, Jebediah was transformed into a superhuman with the strength of Voldar, wisdom of Lumiun, speed of Arel, power of Ribalvei, courage of Elbiam, and stamina of Marzosh.

After 3000 years of service, Shazam sought out someone to succeed him. By this time his benefactors were no longer worshipped and he had to petition the gods for their patronage. Shazam then chose Teth Adam. When Adam spoke the wizard's name, he became Mighty Adam, powered by six Egyptian gods. Teth Adam was corrupted by the power and believed he should rule the world. Shazam was horrified and banished him to a distant planet for all time. On the Rock of Eternity, Shazam waited for another who would succeed him.

In present time, 5000 years later, Shazam decided a boy would be the perfect candidate much like when he was chosen. That kindred spirit came in the form of Billy Batson. Shazam marked Batson and assigned his agent Mister Tawky Tawny to watch over him. When Black Adam returned to Earth, Tawny gifted Batson with a subway token as he ran to the Downtown Fawcett City Station. He was seemingly crushed by a subway car but found himself inside a mystical subway car. Stopping at cavern, Billy met Shazam and heard the wizard's offer. Batson accepted and became Captain Marvel. As penance for Black Adam, Shazam let himself die in a cave-in.
