Dr. Hoshi was from a parallel Earth brought to Monitor's Satellite by Harbinger to figure out a way to save the Multiverse from an Antimatter Wave. Hoshi was not pleased to be among superheroes in her bath robe. Harbinger introduced her to a machine that fabricated costumes. Hoshi thought her costume was ridiculous at first but the cape grew on her. Harbinger touched her and transferred the powers of the villain Dr. Light to her. She immediately realized she could see the light spectrum.
