Lex Luthor made his mark on the business world from a young age and built up his company, LexCorp into a force to be reckoned with. Based in Metropolis, Luthor built up the image of a tech mogul and often downplayed accusations of illegal activity with acts of philantropy.
After the death of Superman, Luthor felt cheated out of a victory only he deserved. Angered by years of planning, he raided the grave of Superman and cloned him. The clone was programmed from Luthor's perception of Superman and implanted a lead sphere filled with Kryptonite as a precaution. Luthor planned to use the Superman clone as his puppet and personal army to control Metropolis, then the world.
The clone corrupted by Luthor's programming, discovered the sphere and removed it. Luthor was nearly killed by the clone but survived.
