July 11, 2023: 48 minute, 6 second recording of Anime Expo panel. After Batman Ninja, Warner Bros. Japan was interesting in doing a series next. Warner Japan and Wit decided to go "super, over the top" and chose the Suicide Squad. Joker's original design was based on a type of anime character referred to as ikemen or basically the good lucking guy. Almost all the characters were hand drawn in 2D but some like the monsters were 3D CG. One challenge was deciding on shooting techniques and coloring techniques to show the contrast between Gotham City and Isekai. December 13, 2023: Recording of 43 minute Tokyo Comic Con panel posted. The Suicide Squad arrives in the Isekai by chance in episode 1 and chaos ensues. Character designs of the Suicide Squad members were shown. Joker is on his own and moving behind-the-scenes so much of his role is kept secret. This version of Joker will be very crazy. Deadshot is crass but is like a big brother. Almost the whole cast was present for the first voice recording. Jun Fukuyama kept improvising lines then everyone started improvising. Subaru Kimura kept asking for retakes to ad-lib a new line. Takehito Koyasu was welcoming with everyone and always made guest stars feel at home. Anna Nagase got more bold with her lines as recording went on. Akira Amano consulted with Wit Studio, the producers, and DC on designs and got little notes back. Peacemaker is the closest design to the original look. A message from Tomoyasu Hotei was played. In terms of music, they wanted a foreign television series feel incorporated into anime like Cowboy Bebop. A preview of Anna Nagase's visit to Wit studio was shown with a look at the cut bag and animation room. Eri Osada was in the midst of episode 4 retakes. The full tour will be posted on YouTube later. More will be shared about other characters in the show. The writer and director made sure Harley was cute. People who don't know about DC can watch this show without getting confused and enjoy it. He is a former rat exterminator who can communicate with rats. Deadshot claims to be an old friend from his prison days. The Thinker is voiced by Hochu Otsuka. He is a brilliant bu mad scientist with a huge ego. He enhances his abilities and manipulates minds with a "Thinking Cap" worn on his head. Enchantress is voiced by Shizuka Ito. She is an ancient witch, who inhabits the body of a kind woman named June Moone. For having great magical powers, she is captured by Amanda Waller. Killer Croc is voiced by Taro Kiuchi. October 29, 2024: Translation of Newtype July 2024 interview. They worked on the series since the first Suicide Quad movie in 2016. Director Eri Osada suggested using Captain Boomerang but was turned down from appearing by the staff because he only threw boomerangs. Takehito Koyasu did audition for Joker. They decided their take on Joker was someone who looked like he was trying his best to come off normal while bursting with insanity. Naoto Hosoda came up with King Shark's overalls. They purposely avoided a voluptuous design for Harley. There was concern about what do with Harley after the Birds of Prey movie came out and the staff learned Harley and Joker broke up. They made sure Harley was also a woman who stands on her own two feet. In the first episode, there was no mention of a car but Osada turned the scene into a car chase. ANN Article
