Zor-El is a Kryptonian scientist and brother of Jor-El. He married Alura In-Ze and was based in Argo City. Together, they had a daughter named Kara In-Ze. It appears that Zor-El may have bioengineered his daughter to metabolize sunlight more efficiently. Nonetheless, he agreed with his brother about Krypton's fate and also constructed a rocket to launch into space. Zor-El had his daughter go first and programmed the rocket for Earth. He promised he and his wife would follow. However, Krypton's destruction came and Kara Zor-El watched in horror as her parents were vaporized in the cataclysm. Due to the trauma, one of the things it took her the longest to remember was her mother's name. When she did, Zor-El shared it with Batman.
