In 5,000,000 B.C., the Old Gods destroyed themselves and unleashed the Godwave upon the universe, seeding beings with power. The planet was split in half and formed two new planets. One was New Genesis and the other was Apokolips, formed by the power of an evil sorceress into a world of darkness and despair. Apokolips lacks any natural life and is one giant city that covers the planet. Its most notable feature are the Fire Pits that can be seen from space. Their exact origin is unknown whether it is mystical or scientific in nature. Darkseid rules Apokolips and is considered a god by the Lowlies, human slaves that toil endlessly in the Armaghetto districts. The planet is patrolled by Parademons, Suicide Jockeys, and Dog Troopers.
Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Big Barda boomed to Apokolips to extract Kara Zor-El from Darkseid's grasp. Batman found and reprogrammed Darkseid's cache of Hellspores to use as leverage, Superman neutralized Zor-El, and both Wonder Woman and Big Barda confronted Darkseid's elite guard, the Female Furies.
