From his Batcave, Batman monitors crime in Gotham City, the world, and even outer space. He was one of the few who detected the approach of a deadly Kryptonite meteor on a collision course with Earth. Rather than depend on government bodies to deal with it, he worked with a contact in Tokyo, Toyman to create a device to destroy it safely. Toyman quickly produced such a device from a design he made six years ago, when he was heavy into hero worship, a giant composite robot of Superman and Batman. As a back up, a manual pilot system was installed.
After Batman and Superman received crucial data on the meteor from Amanda Waller, Superman and Batman flew to Tokyo so Toyman could input it into the robot. Lex Luthor failed to stop their launch and but forced Batman to personally engage the manual pilot. Luckily, Toyman made the pilot compartment a separate piece from the robot itself. After the head on collision with the meteor, the compartment survived relatively undamaged. Batman survived and was brought back to Earth by Superman.
