Kryptonese is the official language of those who lived on Krypton. The written language consists of 118 letters that look like hieroglyphs. In some cases, a single character can refer to a family line, such as the El family with a 'S' looking character, or one of Krypton's guilds. After the planet's destruction, Kryptonese was a relatively dead language. Superman learned the language and is said to keep a diary he writes in Kryptonese. Kara Zor-El's spaceship possessed a short inscription of Kryptonese that translated into English as "This vessel carries my daughter, Kara Zor-El from the now dead planet Krypton. Treat her as you would your own child for you will see the treasure she will be for your world." Upon arriving on Earth, Zor-El only spoke in Kryptonese and later debriefed through Superman.
