Krypto was the family pet of the El family on the planet Krypton. Jor-El elected Krypto to test a prototype rocket ship but was knocked off course. The ship drifted in space for years until it detected the ship that carried Kal-El and landed on Earth. Krypto emerged and found a teenage Kal-El. The two immediately bonded but Krypto proved too dangerous with its superpowers. Years later, Superman relocated it to the Fortress of Solitude. It doesn't care for Kara Zor-El that much, something that Batman used to justify his concern for Superman's cousin.
