When Wonder Woman was in a coma, she was checked into a state of the art medical facility. One of the facility's employees, Dr. Doris Zuel, learned she contracted a rare blood disease that would eventually kill her. Zuel came up with a method to transfer her consciousness into Wonder Woman's body. Her scheme was prevented by Wonder Girl.
Dr. Zuel's assistant, Branson, discovered she was stored in the transfer machine and placed her into a test gorilla named Giganta. Giganta then kidnapped Olga, a circus performer with the power to grow macroscopically. Zuel transferred her consciousness into Olga and became a criminal. She named herself Giganta, after her former host.
When President Luthor issued a modest bounty on Superman and Batman, Giganta was one of the world's super villains that arose to the occasion. Superman dispensed with formality and took down Giganta with a flying uppercut.
