A master contortionist decided to use his power to steal and adopted the costumed identity of Copperhead. His first theft was in Gotham City. Disguised as an old man, he stole the tiara from a dignitary visiting Gotham. Although Copperhead escaped Batman, he was later caught by Batman, Batgirl, and Wonder Woman.
When President Luthor issued a modest bounty on Superman and Batman, Copperhead was one of the world's super villains that arose to the occasion. He saw the bounty as a legitimate way to make money and get revenge on Batman.
