Buttercup is Copperhead's pet snake. Copperhead's parents didn't approve of her being a supervillain or wearing a snake costume. Buttercup avenged her and ate them. Vicki Vale came to Wayne Manor to interview the family the same day E*Vil came to crash after their brownstone had a floor collapse. Vicki didn't seem to notice Buttercup wrap around her arm. Selina did and bolted right onto Bruce's face. He pulled her off but she tried to slash at Buttercup. To keep them out of the interview, Bruce recruited Ra's al Ghul and Man-Bat. E*Vil was kidnapped to the lakeside cabin near the manor. Buttercup easily got loose from its restraints and freed Copperhead and Sad Hatter who untied the others. Man-Bat returned and wondered how the snake got out of the clove-hitch knot. By the end of the day, Selina and Buttercup were friends. Buttercup slept on Selina's back.
