Toyman stole every GokiFluff Series 77 shipment in Gotham City in an attempt to procure all five of the rare Gubbub cards. He also stole shipments of mechanical parts, including a L Drive, armor plating, ballistics, and 500 pounds of military grade red fur. Toyman returned to Kiddie Kingdom with the third Gubbub card. He logged onto GokiForum as NamYot_GokiFan and posted another offer of big money for a Gubbub card. GokiFans started to only talk about the "Gubbub curse." Four GokiFans who found a Gubbub card mysteriously lost theirs in a series of unfortunate and purely coincidental mishaps. A tree fell on one's car. Another's bicycle fell apart. Another's house flooded. The fourth had to get a cast on his right arm. In reality, it was Toyman stealing the cards from them. Toyman tried to steal another shipment to City Comics. The owner barricaded the door but Toyman smashed the window and escaped to a roof across from the store. He started looking through the cards. Man-Bat spotted him. Toyman threw out a yo-yo that entangled Man-Bat and he flew through the top of the emergency ladder. Man-Bat told Little Batman to leave him but changed his mind as he started to suffocate. Toyman got away again.

Man-Bat posted his Gubbub card was for sale in order to lure Toyman into a trap. To prove he was a great partner to Little Batman, Man-Bat left on his own to confront Toyman at Kiddie Kingdom, the designated meeting place. He put on an impromptu disguise and called out, claiming he was Armando Quaz, the average GokiFluff enthusiast he arranged to make a trade with. Toyman decided he and his friends were just going to take the card. Man-Bat demanded he show himself. Lifesize robots of GokiFluff characters, Triodika, PinchuGama, and Rabonile, stepped out from the rows of merchandise. A brief fight followed, ending with them pushing a book shelf on him. He was pulled out and restrained. The card was secured by Triodika. Toyman was not impressed this is what passed for a hero in Gotham these days. Man-Bat claimed that in the 90s, he was a force to be reckoned with. Toyman replied he wouldn't know, he skipped ancient history class. Man-Bat asked why he needed all five Gubbub cards for. Toyman revealed his favorite toy came in a box that said "batteries not included."

Man-Bat realized he was using the Chromalithium in the cards for batteries. Whirlwing prepared to finish off Man-Bat with a cement block but Little Batman crippled it with a batarang then demanded his partner to be released. Toyman was not intimidated by a small child. Toyman inserted the five cards into something and activated it. Toyman, claiming to be the World's Greatest GokiFan, unveiled a giant Gubbub robot, the world's greatest Goki-custom with some special upgrades. It fired an eye laser at them. Little Batman and Man-Bat took cover. Man-Bat believed they needed to knock Toyman off Gubbub. Little Batman didn't think they could get past its defenses. Man-Bat believed his friends could. Toyman was attacked by fleas and fell off. Man-Bat cheered on Scott the flea. Little Batman threw a bola at him in mid-air. Gubbub reactivated and its destroy mode suddenly turned on. Toyman repeated he wanted his custom to be an exact replica of the card art. Little Batman feared it would destroy the city if it got out. In a crazed mode, Man-Bat was swung to the battery chamber. He licked one of the cards and caused an electric discharge. Gubbub collapsed. Toyman tried to hop outside but Batman grabbed him over his shoulder. Ra's al Ghul suggested boiling Toyman in retribution for his crimes.
