Caitlin Snow was taken to Project Cadmus, a top secret government program dedicated to countering the powers of metahumans. Cadmus only wanted to turn her into an operative. One day, Snow broke into Claire Selton's cell and they were fast friends. They busted out of Cadmus and lived a glamorous life of crime as Volcana and Killer Frost. They robbed Gotham Jewelers and many other places. During a heist at Gotham City Bank, Volcana blasted a hole through a wall for the duo's exit. They went their separate ways as planned but Frost back stabbed her, took her cut of the stolen money, and left her dying on the sidewalk. Caitlin Snow passed herself off as an art gallery owner/operator of Snow & 'Assnowciates' at 358 Exchange Place in Central City. However, she was far from reformed. Killer Frost formed a new girl gang with Cyclone and Rumbler. They planned to rob the Gotham Museum but to get the most valuable art, they needed someone with fire powers. Frost thought of her former partner Volcana whom she heard was turned into a child.
Snow found Claire outside Gotham City Middle School and asked her if she was Volcana. Claire responded she used to be. Snow knew it, from recognizing her art, and recalled hearing she was a kid again but was surprised she really was a kid again. She looked at the painting and was relieved the sophistication and maturity in her art was still intact. She identified the burnt bristles were meant to suggest destruction is also a form of creation. Claire was surprised she understood the meaning. Snow was surprised she didn't remember anything from being Volcana either and told her she was Caitlin Snow, a.k.a. Killer Frost. Claire remembered the two of them robbing Gotham Jewelers once. Snow revealed she also went straight. Claire admitted trying to remembers stuff from her 40s was like trying remember stuff from when you were 12. Snow told her Volcana and Killer Frost were like family, sisters in crime and in art. Claire seemed to recall that.
Snow told her she and her partners, Ophelia and Poetry, were curating a brand new exhibit at the Gotham Museum, "It's A Crime! Misunderstood Artists Through the Ages" and offered to introduce her to them, hinting they were always looking for young artists to feature. Claire took her card but remembered she had family karaoke night. Snow recalled she hated karaoke but told her if she changed her mind, the address to the coffee shop they were meeting at was on the back of the card. Around 10 pm, Claire met with Snow, Poetry, and Ophelia at the Espress-Yo-Luck Coffee Shop. Ophelia laid it on thick as she assessed Claire's portfolio, calling her intensity captivating all five of her senses. Poetry agreed and noted it had a rebellious transcendence. Snow told them she was one of them. Ophelia saw it was time for them to do a final walkthrough before they signed the papers the next day. Poetry invited Claire to join them. Snow agreed and she could help with last minute additions. Snow was happy to have Claire back, just like the fire and ice days.
Damian Wayne ran out of the shop and told Claire to wait. Claire lied she just met him on the train and tried to help him because he was lost. Claire got into Snow's Beetle and they drove to Gotham Museum. While Claire was distracted with denying a call from Damian, Snow froze the lock on the front doors. Claire was amazed. Snow stated it held the most important collection of art in Gotham but it needed an original piece by Claire Selton. Claire was pleased but noticed Poetry and Ophelia stealing art. Snow fessed up and revealed they were starting a new girl gang and wanted Volcana to join. They changed into their supervillain personas Cyclone, Rumbler, and Killer Frost. Claire hesitated. Frost told her they needed their fire to complete the theme of elements then walked to a vault that held the most valuable collection of art in Gotham but the door was composed of a tungsten alloy that only melts at temperatures over 3,000 degrees. Claire realized she was the only one capable of that.
Frost promised things would go back like how it used to be, the ol' fire and ice, when they were like family. She saw the art was donated by the Wayne family. Claire told them she wasn't like that anymore. Cyclone threw a tornado at her but she propelled herself over it and Frost froze her. Claire tried to melt her way out but Cyclone channeled the flame at the vault door. Little Batman tried to intervene. Claire told him to run. Little Batman stated that's not what family was and every citizen of Gotham is a family to Batman. Frost stated she was from Central City and pinned him to a wall. Batman and Bright arrived. Bright blasted Frost but Frost held an icicle to Little Batman and told Batman to stand down. The vault door finally broke down. Cyclone asked Batman if he was going to save the art or his friends. Batman replied both then presented his terrible painting of clouds he made for Claire. Frost, Cyclone, and Rumbler were horrified. Batman, Little Batman, and Bright turned the tide.
Frost took Claire into the vault and sealed the hole in the door with ice. Frost tried to apologize for not telling her the plan from the start but Claire refused to go along. Frost told her to just blast a hole so they could get out. Those words stirred Claire's memory and she remembered Frost backstabbed her at the bank job and was the one who left her near death, just to take her cut of the heist for herself. Claire's fire easily neutralized Frost's ice and thanked her for the second chance at life but she wasn't going to ruin it for herself or her family. Claire blasted Frost through the vault door. The trio was rounded up.
