The Superman Museum was founded in the 20th century by the famous explorer, Stefan Andriessen in honor of Metropolis' resident hero. It contains replicas of props, allies, and super villains associated with Superman. Real samples of Kryptonite were said to be on display several times. It was also an open secret that some super villains often used the Museum as a temporary hideout and acted like display mannequins.

The Museum survived the Great Crisis and is still open in the 31st century. Since the origins of Superman were lost in the Crisis, the Museum became more valued despite being grounded on myth and legends. Garth Ranzz, Rokk Krinn, and Imra Ardeen visited it and decided to go forward with forming the Legion of Superheroes. Through a twist of events, the Phantom Zone Projector wound up as a display piece. Clark Kent activated it and released Drax and his pets.
