The Colt Model 1848 Percussion Army Revolver was made in response to problems attributed to the Colt Walker revolver. The Dragoon is a .44 revolver designed by Samuel Colt for the United States Army's Mounted Rifles, also known as the Dragoons. Thus, the new Colt became referred to as the Colt Dragoon. It was lighter than the Walker and improved on exploding and loading issues. It was introduced in the mid-19th century during the Mexican-American War and was popular among civilians as the most powerful gun at the time and decent range of 50 yards. About 18,500 Dragoons were built in the United States. The Colt Dragoon is the primary weapon of Jonah Hex. He most likely attained them while serving in the American Civil War.
