(Comic Canon only) Three Jokers became friends at a liberal arts college. They dormed together and had a lot of fun. At some point, one of them died. 20 years later, Doctor Psycho vented his frustrations with his son at Noonan's. He worried he would end up a freak like his mother, Giganta. Joker told him kids were the worst and listed off the things they needed. He found it hard since he spent the majority of his adult life making sure things died. Psycho could relate. Joker asserted he was in it for the long haul with Bethany but mused a manual for fatherhood would be nice. Psycho speculated he was a bad father. King apologized for minimizing his anguish and making it about him then reckoned he would make a great father. Joker questioned how he would know since he had no children. Psycho announced happy hour was over. Joker brought up the fact to King that he didn't even talk to Tabitha about children yet and had no place to talk.

King thought his generally agreeable demeanor combined with his fierce protectiveness and penchant for doting on those he loved strongly suggested he would be an excellent father. Joker suggested he have some shark babies first before he flaps his jaws about fatherhood. King warned he didn't have to qualify them as "shark" babies. Suddenly, a portal appeared outside Noonan's and sucked the trio up. They were trapped in nightmares based on horror movies. King commented the murder cabin they were in bordered on copyright infringement. Joker noticed a touching tribute to a mother and father. King thought that was wishful thinking. Joker retorted he recognized a child's tribute because he had children, to King's chagrin. King pointed out the killer could be a woman. Psycho told them to shut up. The killer burst in with a chainsaw and chopped King's fin off. They were transported to another room in pitch black darkness.

King wondered if it was Shark Heaven. Joker grumbled he could say "Shark" but King said that wasn't the same thing. Psycho told them to shut up. They realized they were strapped to chairs. The lights turned on and there were devices above them designed to decapitate. King reckoned someone saw one too many scary movies. Eventually, Psycho realized what was going on and his son appeared. Herman Psycho found it lame and admitted he never told his dad about his powers because they were stupid. Doctor Psycho thought they were awesome and called him ungrateful. Even Joker suggested he cut him some slack. Joker and King Shark got separated from them and were trapped in a nightmare based on Squid Games. They were later liberated by Psycho.

Mayor Joker awarded himself with the key to the city in honor of his historic mayoral achievements and announced the first annual Joker-bration, a night of laughter and polite mayhem in honor of the Clown Prince of crime control. Alex informed he of a call from his old college friend, a comedian who also went by "Joker." He was not pleased. Bethany thought it was exciting an old college friend of Joker's was coming for a visit. She recalled her abuela always said a friend was a friend for life. He reckoned she was lucky she died young. He apologized and reminded her how he gets about his past because he was a forward thinker. He admitted they were close in their twenties but he was not the same rowdy party clown he once was. He hated how his friend acted like no time's passed and that he was a comedian. She thought he was a comedian, too. Joker stated he was a clown and there was a difference. He showed up at Bethany and Joker's home in the suburbs. She asked if they met in clown school. Mayor Joker asked why she would assume that.

Joker thought back to their dorm days and recalled a birthday party but Mayor Joker quickly stated he didn't remember much before the election he just won. Joker lied he was on a hot streak, too, and booked himself some big gigs, including a late night show then started called Mayor Joker by his "Monkey" nickname to his annoyance. Joker asked why he never visited and noted it was very charming in Charm City this time of year. Mayor Joker stated he did not travel and couldn't imagine leaving his perfect city. Joker noted Gotham had 3000 murders a week. Mayor Joker declared they were damn proud of that and that was low for them. Mayor Joker wanted to turn in early in preparation for the Joker-bration. Joker asked where he was sleeping. Mayor Joker told him to go on the couch. The next morning, there was a knock on the door. Mayor Joker assumed it was Alex and told him to tell the print shop not to make the Ray Lenoman banners glossy but it was the other Joker. He mused Mayor Joker always did crave the spotlight and it was no surprise he was throwing himself a shindig.

Mayor Joker was annoyed and demanded respect then pointed out people chanted his name in fear. He declared he was the most powerful man in Gotham while Joker was a pathetic clown. Joker clarified he was a comedian and was disgusted with how his friend changed, getting wifed up and being responsible. Mayor Joker quipped at least he wasn't telling the same knock-knock jokes for the last 20 years. Joker had a knock-knock joke for him and clocked him then grabbed the key to the city. Mayor Joker revealed he had a spare and they fought. Joker noticed Mayor Joker kept a photo of them with their third friend, another Joker. Mayor Joker thanked God he was dead. They laughed. Mayor Joker believed change was good and he was now an egomaniacal clown in a good way. Joker admitted he could use some change, too, and revealed he hadn't booked a gig in months. He bemoaned how hard it was for a white-grease paint heterosexual cis male to get work. Mayor Joker guessed one percent harder. Joker declared they couldn't win. Mayor Joker ordered Alex to cancel the Lenoman banners but was pissed to learn they were non-refundable. Joker took Lenoman's place and told his jokes.

On the day of Joker-bration, Bethany told him she was proud of him for helping his friend out and giving him a slot at the celebration even though he didn't like abusing his powers. He quipped he was naturally funny then asserted he was a good friend. She put on her gas mask. He tossed out a cannister of his Joker toxin to make the audience laugh and told him to knock'em dead. He surmised they just did. Ernie Nguyen and his fiance Ira Colter were to be the first couple to be wed by Mayor Joker at Gotham City Hall but the nuptials were interrupted by Black Mask and his False Face Society. Black Mask allowed it to conclude but made Joker wear a vest of dynamite. Colter declared he was married. As they ran out, Nguyen thanked him for letting them get married instead of killing them. Joker advised them to get out before they changed their minds. He then asked Black Mask what he wanted, knowing it wasn't to scuff up his desk with faux Italian oxfords. Mask warned him to be careful or he might accidentally detonate his vest.

Joker gave him thirty minutes because he got a parent-teacher conference to attend because Benicio was struggling with math and he had a teacher to bribe. Mask wanted Joker to hold a live mayor address declaring him as the new crime boss in charge. Joker asked how he was supposed to do that. He told Joker to text Tawny Young. He complied as long as he could make it to Benicio's school in 45 minutes and managed to send the same text to Harley Quinn without being caught. Joker started his address but the Bat-Family arrived and drove out Black Mask. He noted there was something familiar about the fourth member of the team, unaware she was really Harley Quinn.
