The Yellow Element is the most concentrated source of yellow energy. It is the one part of the light spectrum that can resist the green energy. For eons, the Guardians of the Universe kept the Yellow Element hidden underground in another dimension. Sinestro managed to surmise its location and made a deal with Kanjar Ro to steal it in return for title.
Kanjar Ro agreed and secretly hid the Yellow Element on the planet Qward and commissioned the Weaponers to weaponize it. They built the Yellow Battery and Power Ring. Sinestro briefly rendered the Green Element inert with a direct, concentrated blast from the Yellow Battery. Hal Jordan used two celestial bodies to destroy the Battery and Element in it.
